Tort de botez pt Andi / Baby shower cake for Andy

The birth of a baby for our neighbors was the most beautiful event in their lives until now. Ever since we met then we were asked if we have children because they cannot wait to become parents. Some time has passed since then and this spring the stork left a beautiful little baby boy at their home, Andy Edward. The joy was indescribable for this young family but the most important party was to come this month, the baby baptism, the baby shower party. With great emotion I dared to ask these young parents to make them a special gift for the young member, a cake at the party. They have agreed immediately though they did not know what cakes I can bake and so this confirmation deeply honored me. The day before the party I slept only 4 hours and worked up to exhaustion in order to make a special cake for Andy. I can only say that I modeled fondant figurines for training my dexterity, a few roses, some teddy bears and baby bootees. Being short of time I kind of panicked and making the figurines on the cake was a challenge which I passed successfully as they came out great after the first attempt. But only I know how many saints I raised towards the sky and how many prayers to be able to finish this job. And here’s the result.
The sponge was simple with vanilla flavor.
The Chantilly cream was the filling, with fruits to give the cake more freshness.
Tigger was the favorite pet for Andy’s cousin who at his five years he heroically resisted till late in the evening and never separated from the figurine he took from the cake. The reward for my job was unimaginable.

Apoi pregatiti saramura.

p1

Puneti la fiert in 500 ml apa rosiile taiate in 2.

p2

Nu exista peste in saramura fara mamaliga!

English version:

Fish is probably the only meat recommended by all doctors in almost all diets, for all ages. This meat tastes different from the popular meats and has special qualities and we should take advantage of them without restraint. Grandma told me when I was a child that when they were young fish was a food for the poor as it was very cheap. People used to come on the streets in carts with fresh fish brought from the rivers and ponds and it was so cheap that it was impossible not to buy some. It was much hard to grow more chickens or pigs or other animals as it was expensive but to buy a 5, 6 kg fish which was so cheap that everyone buy it to have a good meal on Sundays where all family members could enjoy. I wonder if maybe that wealth back then turned today into a market where the fish is now scarse and not cheap at all. In one way or another the wheel turned and the fish which was found in abundance then started slightly to disappear. Leaving theories aside let me tell you about what we did a few days ago when we bought a fresh fish and the story of the brine made for him. I went and bought a nice carp, fresh and beautiful. Once home I gave my husband the ungrateful duty to clean its scales. And here the fun begins.
You will need:

  • 1 or 2 fish
  • 2 fresh tomatoes
  • 4, 5 cloves of garlic
  • Salt, pepper and thyme

After the animal was cleaned of scales, and of the intestines thoroughly wash it well and place it nicely in the pan with some water, spices and a drop of oil. Then prepare the brine. Put water to boil, about 500 ml and the tomatoes cut in two. When it begins to boil add the sliced garlic cloves, salt and any other seasoning along with piper, any other seasoning you might have in the house, the more savory the rich is the spice fragrant and the more flavorful your brine will be.
In the meantime, the fish cooks and the brine takes a rest, quickly make a polenta. There is no such thing as a fish in brine without polenta. Then my dears take a sit at the table and there will be no talking because your mouth so dizzy from all the flavor will be busy with this delight.

Enjoy!

Legume coapte in otet / Fried veggies with vinegar

E sambata dimineata. Aceste dimineti erau preferatele mele in copilarie.

Pofta mare!

English version:

It’s Saturday morning. These were my favorite childhood mornings. All summer I used to spend it at my grandmother’s in an absolute freedom, with her, her 7 chickens and the dog, Tarzan, my dearest friend. Friday afternoon my dad came too at grandma’s bringing a huge watermelon, eggplant, peppers and other summer goodies. The plan was already preset. The following Saturday morning we would wake up early in the morning and go into the forest, which was 50 meters from us. In the woods there was a paradise, mushrooms, strawberries, eared rabbits fleeing from Tarzan, walkways and cool. We walked for hours gathering wild strawberries, blackberries and mushrooms, fallen branches from the trees so we can cook with them.

Once back home we baked on the old summer kitchen stove the mushrooms peppers and eggplant, we made a great tomato salad with onion and cucumber and enjoy the company of everyone. I love those memories because although I was born late at night, early summer mornings have always been my favorites. So here’s a small tribute to those mornings with this extraordinary simple recipe.

  • Take 7, 8 peppers
  • an eggplant or two
  • and some cheese

Place on a grill, if you don’t have a hob outside, the washed whole peppers and eggplants in whole or sliced. When they mature, take them from the grill, let them draw their soul 2, 3 minutes, and peel them. Place the peppers in a bowl and put over them some oil, about 2 tablespoons, some vinegar and salt for all to get tasteful. If you have baked the eggplant in whole, chop them finely with a bread knife and toss it like a salad with onion, salt and oil but if you made rings, let them as such to be eaten. Place all on a plate with some cheese, and a chubby tomato next to them and my dears you’ve just improvised food for the soul.

Enjoy!
